Looking Back

He said he was with someone else because…she took him home
A place I’ve never known
I just shrugged and kicked the can down the road
Sometimes it’s just alright, it’s alright…everything will be alright
I held his hand and felt his pulse begin to rise
Without giving it a second thought or a moment to say good bye
I skipped stones across the east-end bay, my only thoughts
It’s all good, it’s all okay, it’s okay…everything is going to be okay
Our dance was intense and as seductive as the blue in his eyes
But the beat was off while I was doing the box step – no rhythm no rhyme
So once again I just shrugged my shoulders and stoically walked away

…walked away never looking back…I could never look back
